Children commonly experience difficulties with psychological, emotional, social, and behavioral functioning. Unfortunately, families sometimes are at a loss as to where to seek help for these issues. IPS Behavioral Health Clinic specializes in treating the child and family, offering holistic care to improve quality of life.
What Is Child and Family Treatment?
Children do not develop mental health or behavioral issues in a vacuum. Rather, these issues may be the result of a combination of factors, including genetic predisposition, the school environment, family dynamics, ongoing stressors (e.g., divorce, domestic violence, trauma, or loss of a loved one), and the home environment. Focusing on just one of these issues in isolation does not provide a complete picture of your child or his or her functioning within the family unit.
Instead, child and family treatment conceptualize child mental health problems holistically. We consider all the pieces that may be contributing to your child’s distress. Child and family treatment also considers the impact of one child’s difficulties on the rest of the family unit. For example, how do family members respond when the child is in distress? Is the child getting the support needed to thrive? What are the unique strengths of this family, and how can they adjust to better support the child.
